Press treatment of stories concerning Muslims is a continuing subject of political controversy. The Levison Inquiry into press standards highlighted the repeated distortions of issues to do with the Muslim community by the press. Others have gone further and suggested an institutional Islamophobic bias in sections of the media.
Today we are looking back at a series of landmark stories from the last 12 months. And we’ll be asking whether or not they reveal a press that is unable to deal with issues in the Muslim community fairly?
Joining John Rees in the studio to discuss these issues were Talha Ahmed from the Muslim Council of Britain, Catherine Heseltine CEO of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee, Massoud Shadjareh Chair of Islamic Human Rights Commission, Mohammmed Dilwar Hussain, Deputy editor of 5Pillarz newspaper and Imam Abdullah Hasan from Imams to End Domestic Abuse.
